22nd-23rd May - Alfred A. Loeb State Park / by David Harrison

Bye-bye Sunny California - Hello Woodland Oregon!

Crossed the State Border without bookings and took a chance at Brookings - the Harris Beach State Campground - darn it - missed out on their last Yurt by just two minutes!

No worries,  beardy Park Ranger told us of Alfred A Loeb State Park Campground & Cabins - 8 miles inland along the Chetco River, where we struck gold - not panning in the river - but sleeping in Myrtlewood Cabin which gets booked up 6 months ahead - a late cancellation meant we were in for 2 nights at a (USA) bargain price of $42 a night!  Our first North American Log Cabin and a delicious taste of many more to come!!

We hiked along the river and through Giant Redwood Groves, collected fallen branches for our Campfire grill, met the neighbours Michelle and Annabelle, shared toasted marshmallows and travel experiences and had a really relaxed time.

Oregon first impression?

So much more laid back than California where folks talk cool and act frosty!!
