Phew! Made it into Mexico - now just 376 Km to Cancun - and NO borders to cross!! After 1,500 Km in eight days it's time for a breather, and what better place to take a three day break from the road than the Fiesta Inn at Chetumal. A new hotel with modern rooms and a stylish rooftop swimming pool with 360 degree views of Ocean and City! Did I mention the rooftop Bar?
In 1955 Hurricane Janet virtually obliterated downtown Chetumal and the city was rebuilt to a grand plan with a US style grid of wide boulevards. Much like Milton Keynes! But considerably hotter!!
We ate ceviche, drank cerveza (Corona obvs), found a few good local bars, street foodstalls and restaurants away from the sparse tourist crowd and soaked it all up. Did I mention the Crocodiles lurking in the bay?
