13th November - downtown La Paz / by David Harrison

From Llallagua it was an easy drive to Oruro and on to the suburbs of La Paz.  We had a destination - Colibri Camping & Eco Lodge - and everything was going well - until our new Sat Nav (Maps.me) suddenly announced - 'Download North Peru Map Pack' - and gave us a blank screen where seconds earlier roads and landmarks were displayed!!

So there we were - on the outskirts of Bolivia's Capital City with no maps or sat-nav just an address and the knowledge that Colibri C&EL was 8.7 miles to the South East.

David's a goal orientated fella - with grit and determination - but his spirit was close to breaking point during our crossing of downtown La Paz !  There are NO cars in La Paz!  Nobody who owns one would be crazy enough to drive there!! There are only Taxis, Minibus Taxis, Big Bus buses and lorries in every shape and form.  And there are certainly no Gringos at the wheel of any of these!!

Three hours later we made it to Colibri ! Yes - three hours!!  For a 20 Km journey!!!

Luckily they had a WigWam available for us - and cold wine/beers in the fridge - so we took it on the chin, relaxed and enjoyed the chilled environs of the Rio La Paz Valley!!!

Soz - no Photos! Gridlock doesn't come across well through a camera lens!!
