21st-28th February - Cuba Libre anyone? / by David Harrison

Cancun to Cuba is just 128 miles! How could we NOT visit!?

Parking Pablo at Cancun International Long Term for seven days we hopped on AeroMexico's morning flight to La Habana and 55 minutes later touched down in another world!

A wonderfully fascinating, frustrating and at the same time fabulous world!!

Here's our seven day story told in pictures.

And the highlights?

- 1950's American Cars everywhere

- Awesome Architecture

- Crumbling Buildings desperate for restoration

- Fidel's legacy "Socialismo O Muerte"

- Old school Hotel Santa Isabel in the Plaza de Armas

- Smoking San Cristobal de La Habana Cigars

- Drinking Havana Club Cuba Libres

- Dancing to the live music reverberating around La Habana Vieja

- Museo de la Revolucion - Totalitarian State meets Tiffany's Hall of Mirrors

- Castillo de la Real Fuerza - built in 1558

- Rincon de los Cretinos

- La Guarida Restaurant (aka The Cook, The Thief, The Wife & Her Lover meets Che Guevara)

- Room 206's Stained Glass Window

- David's Dirty Dancing!

- Armeria 9 de Abril Museum of Guns (many from La Revolucion)

- Cuban People - most lovely/ some hustlers (who can blame them on wages of just £30 a month!?)

We stayed in La Habana for seven days.  It's a fascinating place - go there soon before it's all swept away by the tide of Capitalism fast rising up Puerto Habana's walls!
