Hosteria Horizontes. Fabulous!
What a relief at the end of an EDGY day in Colombia!!
Departed Medellin later than planned as some 'Puta' had ripped the Drivers Side Mirror off dear Pablo during the night - AND siphoned off 20 Litres of Gas from the Petrol Tank leaving us dry!
Couldn't park in the Hotel's underground carpark as it only had 2.1 metres clearance and we're pushing 2.3m! Recepcion said we'd be safe on the street right outside as they have 24 hour Security Guard and CCTV! WRONG!! Even as we stood and looked at the damage a thuggish looking Medellin local walked by saying something insulting about Chilenos!! You're the 'Puta' mate!!!
Hadn't realised there was such ill-will towards Chilean people across South America until now!
Made it to the Petrol Station half a mile away on fumes! Filled up and headed out of town on Ruta 25 Norte. Usual a**hole drivers trying to run us off the road - no drivers side mirror making junctions extra tough - "Is it cos I is Chileno?"
Slow going along the 25 - 284 km to Caucasia and the Hosteria Horizontes and we'd like to get there before dark! Fat chance!!
As dusk hits we decide to look for alternative accommodation, but the region we are driving through is unlit and unfriendly - and all three Hotels shown on Maps.me are dangerous dumps - especially for Chilenos!!
Reach a town called Taraza where the 25 is closed due to a bridge collapse and wait 45 minutes in a traffic jam until the Policia arrive and get things moving. 45 minutes of bad eye from the nasty looking locals - Town Called Malice! Perhaps we shouldn't have driven this route - for sure we shouldn't be driving these roads after dark - EDGY!
Clear Taraza and the pedal is to the metal as Amanda calls the straights from the curves and we overtake all traffic to reach Caucasia around 10pm. They slide back their Security Gate, we pull up in the Central Compound and check into the welcome safety of our Superior Doble 1st Floor Room! Feeling like we've just lived out an episode of The Walking Dead we down the chilled beers grabbed from Recepcion's fridge and flop on the bed - exhausted!
